SELF DEFENCE AT LGGS
'Activ8 self-defence is a form of jujitsu. It is run on a Monday after school and is open to any year group and ability. We learn a variation of different skills, from how to get out of headlocks to something as simple as pulling your hand away from someone's grasp. Starting at Level 1,we work our way up, doing a level each half-term. Currently, the people who have been at the club since September are on Level 3, but it doesn't matter if you're a newcomer as we always go over previous skills to keep them fresh in our minds. Last week, we learnt alternate ways of how to get out of a situation in which somebody may have you held to the ground and is about to kick you (i.e. not the best of situations to be in!). Then, we practiced punching, kicking and elbowing with the punch bags, so we did not hurt our partners. Overall, it is a very useful and enjoyable club and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to start something new!' - L. Sears Year 8
